Hugo Weaving je jeden z nejoblíbenějších australských herců. V roce 1981 vystudoval National Institute of Dramatic Art a od té doby pracoval pro televizi, film i divadlo. V roce 1991 vyhrál cenu Institutu australského filmu (AFI) za nejlepší herecký výkon ve filmu Důkaz a v roce 1994 nominaci AFI za film Priscilla, královna pouště. Poslední rolí před Elrondem pak byl Agent Smith v populárním snímku Matrix. Právě tak si jej spousta fanoušků pamatovala a jeho dosazení do role sličného elfa těžce nesla. I dnes, kdy o svém hereckém umu dostatečně přesvědčil, vyvolává objevení Agenta „Elronda“ Smithe na plátně roztodivné pocity.
